The Great Wildbeast Migration
The Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti-Ndutu region is an annual movement of over 1.5 million wildebeests, along with hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles. This migration, one of the most impressive wildlife phenomena in the world, is driven by the animals’ search for fresh grazing and water. Starting in the southern Serengeti and Ndutu in Tanzania, the herds move northward towards the central and western Serengeti, and eventually to the Maasai Mara in Kenya. The migration involves dramatic river crossings, with predators like lions and crocodiles preying on the animals along the way. The cycle is influenced by seasonal rains, and it typically peaks between January and March in the southern Serengeti, where calving takes place, before the animals begin their northward trek.
